The AI Summer School is a joint AI initiative by the the Computational Pathology & AI Center of Excellence (CPACE) at the School of Medicine and Pitt HexAI Research Laboratory at the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS), University of Pittsburgh.

Held annually each June, this program offers high school (grades 11–12) and community college students an engaging introduction to artificial intelligence (AI) in medical imaging informatics, with a focus on its real-world applications in health care.

Through hands-on activities, interactive lectures, and mentorship opportunities, students gain foundational knowledge in AI and explore how cutting-edge technologies are shaping the future of healthcare and biomedical research. Launched in 2023, the AI Summer School continues to build early exposure and interest in AI among motivated learners from diverse educational backgrounds.
